Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Smile Session?

A Smile Session is my way of making you, well, smile. It’s a simple, straight-forward approach to photography – nothing complicated, no added sugars, fillers or preservatives.

A Smile Session can be any type of photo shoot – family, childhood, newborn, maternity, senior, you name it! I charge a flat fee of $350 – this covers my time, talent, and the professional editing of your gallery. With this session, you will receive a 4×6 print of every image in your gallery, and a cute little keepsake box to store them in. You will also have a minimum additional purchase requirement of $300, which you can use to buy a Collection, or simply pick and choose what you like from my product sheet.

What is a Collection?

Collections offer the best value and are my most popular option. I offer a range of collections to suit every need, but all Collections include full-resolution digital images, web-ready images for easy online sharing, and the flexibility to choose the printed products that suit you best. Collections are sold separately from your Smile Session, and are completely optional. Prices start at $695.

Do I have to decide on a Collection now?

Nope! There’s no need to make any decisions until after you have seen your photos. Once your gallery is available, you’ll have 2 weeks to decide if you want to order a little or a lot, and I have products and Collections to suit every need.

What kind of products do you offer?

I offer a complete line of professionally printed products including prints of all sizes, canvas wraps, gallery blocks, albums and more. Please contact me for a complete product sheet.

How many photos will you take?

A lot! I want to be sure I have plenty of images to choose from so that I can pick the best of the best to include in your gallery. By doing so, I can be sure that your gallery will include at least 25 professionally edited images that I think you will love.

How long does a session last?

Sessions generally last about an hour, give or take. Newborn sessions, however, generally last 2-3 hours.

Do I get to keep my digital files?

Digital files are not included in the cost of a Smile Session, but I do offer full-resolution digital files that can be purchased individually or as part of a Collection. Digital files that you purchase include a print release authorization so that you can print them as many times as you like. This is a great way to meet your $300 minimum purchase requirement!

What is an online viewing gallery?

Your photos will be available in a personal online gallery that you can share with friends and family. The gallery also allows you to easily share your photos to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and more. Your gallery will be live for 2 weeks to give you plenty of time to view your photos and decide what you’d like to purchase.

What if I need more than 2 weeks?

No problem! I can reactivate your gallery for an additional week for a $25 fee.

Is there anything else I should know about your Smile Session?

Just a few things. Family sessions include up to 5 participants – additional family members are $25 each. Newborn and maternity sessions include Mommy, Daddy and baby, but you can add siblings for $50.

Do you sell gift certificates?

Yes, I do! They are perfect for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, baby showers, and more! Please contact me for details.

When should I schedule our newborn session?

The earlier the better! It’s best to contact me during your 2nd trimester so that I can pencil in your due date. Once baby arrives, we can finalize the date. Newborn sessions are usually best when the baby is 7-10 days old.

What should the baby wear?

Baby can wear their birthday suit! I’ll bring a variety of hats, wraps and blankets so you don’t have to worry about a thing. But if you have a special item that you’d like to use, please let me know and I will be happy to incorporate it.

Where do you shoot?

Sessions are held outdoors at the location of your choice. Maybe you have a favorite spot at the beach, your local park, or even at home. I can help with recommendations if you need ideas! Newborn sessions take place at your home. I’ll bring everything we need to create a mini studio right in your home.

I will travel anywhere for your session, but locations that are farther than 25 miles from central Greenwich will require a travel fee. We can discuss the specifics before we decide on a location.

What should we wear?

Whatever feels right! It all comes down to personal preference. Clothing should feel good and fit each person’s unique style. If your three-year-old loves to wear a tutu, let her wear a tutu! Matchy-matchy is out, individuality is in! Just keep in mind to dress for the weather and location. If you need some inspiration, Pinterest is full of ideas.

I don’t like being in photos. Is a family session right for me?

You bet! Remember, these photos are for your children as much as they are for you, and when they’re grown, they’ll cherish these photos of you together when they were young – even if you didn’t lose those stubborn 10 lbs. They’ll think you look great, and chances are, you will too! After all, when will you ever be this young again? So forget about looking perfect, and capture these moments together while you still can!

My husband doesn’t want to be in our photos. What can I do?

I know, I know – I hear it from my own husband all the time! For some reason, many men just aren’t comfortable with the idea, and for some, the last time they were in front of a camera was at their own wedding!

Just tell him I promise to make it easy. We’ll have fun and I won’t make him do anything too embarrassing. Honestly, most Dads end up having a great time in my sessions.

My child will not sit still for photos. What can I do?

That’s good!! Kids on the move are happy kids, and happy kids make great photos!

My child refuses to smile for the camera. What can I do?

I don’t want your child to smile for the camera! I want your child to smile because his sister just whispered something funny in his ear or because you just tickled his funny bone. Smiles ‘for the camera’ are never good – but smiles that come from genuine connections are smiles from the heart, and that’s what I’m there to capture!

Did you really grow up in a little pink house on Dewberry Lane?

Yes, I did! In a tight-knit little farming town in South Texas. My earliest memories are filled with endless hours hanging out with my best friend, cooling off in the lawn sprinkler, tagging along with my older sisters and their friends, wanting to do everything they were doing…whether it was wading in the ditch after a big rain, or riding bicycles up and down the street until the sun went down. We moved from that house when I was about 5 years old, but I still see it as a symbol of my childhood. I remember it fondly and I still drive by it every time I visit my hometown.

What is a dewberry, anyway?

It’s delicious, juicy goodness that grows wild in Texas, that’s what! Dewberries are a lot like blackberries, slightly sweet and a little tart. I remember ‘helping’ my Mom and my beloved Granny pick them by the bucketful, and they would use them to make dewberry jelly, dewberry pie, and my favorite – dewberry cobbler. Dewberry season was a time of year that we always looked forward to!
